БЕЛЫЕ НОЧИ...И ЧЕРНЫЕ ДНИ [WHITE NIGHTS...AND BLACK DAYS]
Ink, watercolor, and gouache on paper
[Soviet Union]
circa 1941
Framed to 22 3/4 x 16 3/4
A satirical anti-Nazi Soviet propaganda hand-painted poster lampooning the failed German invasion of the Soviet Union. At left, a Nazi soldier gleefully goose-steps through fields of daisies during his "White Nights." But at left, the same officer is now bedraggled with only one scavenged shoe, a ripped uniform, and stubble. He is held at the end of the Red Army's gun barrel, surrounded by his fallen soldiers.
VERY RARE. An original artwork almost certainly intended for use as a propaganda poster during the war. We traced no known copies, however.
