[The Fourteenth Anniversary of October]

Mounted to 28 1/2 x 41 1/2 in.

A bold and striking Soviet propaganda poster commemorating the 14th anniversary of the October Revolution. An industrial worker rendered in red holds the means of production and a rifle, holding back a personification of encroaching Western imperialists. Underfoot, a Tsarist crawls towards the West.

Founded in 1922, the artist cooperative was originally called the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia, amending its name in 1928 to the Association of Artists of the Revolution. During the 1920s, they were highly influential in the Soviet art world; however, they were dissolved in 1932 when the government centralized most independent art organizations.
