Short-recoil operated single action autoloading pistol fed by detachable single stack magazines. Left slide struck with two-line patent mark reading PATENTED APR. 20. 1897/SEPT. 9. 1902. DEC. 19. 1905. FEB. 14. 1911 followed by address marking COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A. The {Rampant Colt} logo is struck into the left slide behind the cocking serrations correct for Early 1911 pattern pistols, with the model marking to right slide reading MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY. Frame shows UNITED STATES PROPERTY marking to dustcover and circled WGP monogram of Major Walter G. Penfield. Further markings include H to rear slide above retaining plate, J to right barrel lug, P and H on  top  of the chamber in line with the axis of the bore, H and R to interior frame forward of hammer. Grips unmarked. Magazine is worn two-tone with lanyard loop to floorplate. {C&R}

Good. Bore is dirty with some firing and lead residues that should clean to Frosty with some light pitting. Metal finish shows a brown patina forming on mainspring housing, gripstrap, and triggerguard with further brown streaks and flecking to forward slide and dustcover. Edgewear overall with further loss of finish at muzzle, forward dustcover, and upper slide. Grips show handling wear and dents with checkering wearing flat at lower edges. Action functions when cycled by hand.
