Short recoil operated single action autoloading pistol fed by detachable single stack magazines. Frame is marked GOVERNMENT MODEL above the serial number. Left slide showing two-line patent reading PATENTED APR. 20. 1897. SEPT. 9. 1902/DEC. 19. 1905. FEB. 14. 1911. AUG. 19. 1913 followed by two-line address reading COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A. Rear slide struck with noncircled {Rampant Colt} behind cocking serrations. Right slide struck COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 45. Further marks include Colt's VP monogram marking on left triggerguard, R initial to triggerguard, S to rear slide below firing pin retaining plate, and J on left barrel lug. Item further shows British London {Crown/V} stamps on slide, frame, and chamber, with additional {Crown/GP} to chamber. The initials JJ are struck into the frame above the triggerguard. Magazine is unmarked, two-tone, with lanyard loop to floorplate. Approximately, 17,600 Colt Government Model automatic pistols were purchased by the British government. Of these, 5,040 were in caliber .45 ACP, and 12,560 in Caliber .455 Automatic. According to Charles W. Clawson, "They were shipped to Colt's London Office until mid-1913 and thereafter to London Armoury Company, Ltd.," through which this firearm passed. {C&R}

Good. Bore is dirty with firing residues that may clean to Bright or better with crisp rifling throughout. Blued finish shows edgewear, scattered scratches and abrasions, and thin spots on the dustcover and middle slide. Some brown mottling on gripstrap and mainspring housing. Left side of rear sight has been deformed. Grips show some handling dents and scratches. Action functions when cycled by hand.
