31.75" curved single edged blade with a 26" stopped median fuller and a 8.5" false edge. 1.2" wide blade at ricasso. 36.125" in overall length. 5" hilt silver hallmarked stirrup guard with flat pommel cap with small round capstan nut. Tapered grooved rectangular wood grip covered in shagreen with eight wraps of flat silver wire. Face of guard with London assay office hallmarks including the {Lion Passant} indicating sterling silver, {Crowned Leopard}, lower case "q" date code for 1791 and the {King's Head}. The "FT" hallmark of Francis Thurkle (Jr.) is present in the face of the guard as well. The pommel cap bears a {Lion Passant} hallmark as well. The blade is engraved with foliate themes and trophies of arms and the initials "H&S" (?) at the ricasso, with flowing fire blued finish on the first 13" of the blade and gilt highlights. The saber is accompanied by its original German silver mounted leather scabbard with suspension rings on the throat and middle mount with the throat bearing a frog stud as well. Mounts are not hallmarked.

Francis Thurkle II (ca. 1755 - ca. 1801) was a prolific and masterful sword maker who operated independently during the last decade of the 18th century. His iconic "FT" cartouche, which he stamped to precious and non-precious metal hilts alike, appears on both British and United States officers' swords. Following in his father, Francis I's (b. 1725), footsteps, Francis II was declared Master of the Worshipful Company of Cutlers in 1795.
