Henry A. Doerr (ca 1822-1885) was a Prussian-born photographer active in San Antonio during the last third of the nineteenth century. A March 1867 San Antonio Ledger article describes Henry Doerr as "the first gentleman who took photographs in San Antonio, and has been engaged in this business over seventeen years." Over the course of his more than three-decades in Texas, Doerr operated both independently and in partnership with other photographers.

David Barr (1839-1925) and Charles J. Wright (ca 1847-?) operated Houston studios at Main and Preston, main at Congress, and Congress between Main and Travis during the 1870s.

Alexis V. Latourette (active 1870s-1880s) worked in parts of Texas and northern Mexico. His surviving views span widely across Texas, including small towns and larger cities, making him one of the important photographers documenting the era..

Francis Parker established his photography studio in El Paso ca 1881-1882, and according to the El Paso County Historical Society was the region's first resident photographer. He remained in the region until 1910. Parker's arrival and photographs document the development of El Paso from a frontier town to a bustling railroad community.

Generally good condition overall, with sharp definition and solid mounts. Several cards exhibit typical peripheral handling wear, light surface soiling, faint foxing, dampstaining, or corner softening consistent with age. Some views with collector's notes or stamps on verso.
