A dynamic painting showing stately Hessian troops dressed in golden yellow uniforms with blue and red jackets with buff shoulder belts. They wear mitre caps with full-size brass cap plates. Mustering in snowy weather in the Hessian Barracks, several officers are visible on horseback. The Kompaniefahnen (Company Flag) of the Grenadier Regiment that was commanded by von Rall, Von Woellwarth (1778), von Trumbach (1779), and d'Angelelli (1781).
Known for their martial prowess, the Hessians served as auxiliaries to the British Army in several major conflicts in the 18th century, most notably in the American Revolutionary War. They primarily served in the Northern Theater, fighting with distinction at White Plains and Fort Washington.
