Springfield Model 1873. Half stock single-shot trapdoor breech block rifle. .45 caliber. Lock plate marked "U.S. Springfield" with eagle image. Trapdoor mechanism stamped with model and serial numbers. Barrel is 32 1/2 in. long. Overall length is 51 1/2 in.
The metal's patina and wood are both extremely dark. There is also a cord wrapped around the rifle immediately behind the trigger, colored darker to match the rest of the aesthetic. On top of the barrel near the rear sight are the letters "V," "P," "F," and "A," along with a small eagle's head. Then, on the top of the butt plate, "28 B" is stamped. There are some small markings around the rifle near the trigger, along with a hole that looks to be filled. There are a few small cracks in the wood, but it is otherwise in good condition.
The Springfield Model 1873 was the first standard-issue breech-loading rifle adopted by the U.S. Army, used significantly in battles against Native Americans. The rifle was produced between 1873 and 1884, remaining in service until 1903.
