Willerding percussion long (Kentucky) rifle. Full stock single-shot muzzle-loading rifle. .38 caliber. Barrel octagonal and 47 1/2 in. long. Overall length is 62 1/2 in.
The metal on the barrel, lock plate, flint, cock, and frizzen is of a darker color, whereas the metal on the trigger, patch box, curved butt plate, and adornments is lighter. The wood also varies, with the ramrod being of a lighter shade than the rest of the rifle. Stamped on top of the barrel is the name "Goff Bailey," perhaps the name of one of the rifle's previous owners.
Featured on the lock plate is an engraving of a dog hunting a bird. The patch box is designed in a curvy fashion and topped with a five-pointed star. This curvy design is also seen on the eight metal plates lining both sides of the stock underneath the barrel. On the opposite side of the butt is a metal crescent moon and two more five-pointed stars, making this truly a beautiful rifle.
