Raimond Bonheur (1796-1849), artist. Laguillermie, engraver. Amerique Septenrionale. Steel engraving with hand coloring. From Victor Levasseur. Atlas Universel Illustré. Paris: A. Combette, [1845?].
An attractive map of North America with exceptional margin illustrations of excellent quality depicting lush landscapes, native flora & fauna, and several figures. Measures approx. 22 1/4 x 15 in.
This edition shows Mexico in control of Texas as well as most of the Southwestern territories, with the northern border conforming to the Treaty of 1819 (misprinted as 1810). The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of 1848 saw the territory that would eventually form Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, California, and portions of Colorado and Wyoming ceded to the United States.
Interestingly, the United States extends to include the Pacific Northwest, extending deep into present-day Canada, reflecting the Oregon boundary dispute.
A highly presentable map from the era of the Mexican-American War.
