An attractive and important map from the engaging journal recorded and published by Daniel Williams Harmon (1778-1843). A fur trader from Vermont who began working for the North West Company in April 1800 and traveled west throughout the American and Canadian frontiers. After arriving in British Columbia in 1809, he served for a decade at Forts Saint James and Fraser. The 1820 book from which this map originates is well regarded despite some interference by editor Daniel Haskel (c.f. Field & Howes).
The map is a sweeping cartographic depiction of the territory that would eventually become the western United States and Canada. The various Native Americans and their territories are boldly marked among rivers and lakes.
