.42 caliber. 44.5" pinned octagonal barrel. NSN. Browned finish, brass and iron furniture, smooth full length hardwood stock with raised cheek rest and crude pewter nose cap. Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle with double set triggers, a fixed notch rear sight and a dovetailed Rocky Mountain blade front sight. The unmarked percussion lock is secured by a single screw and modified to fit the rifle, if somewhat poorly. Triggerguard with broken front and rear tangs, likely recycled on this rifle, which appears to be composite and assembled from parts into this stock. Long three-screw iron breech plug tang is typical of East Tennessee percussion rifles from the mid-to-late 19th century, many of which were still feeding families well into the first quarter of the 20th century, requiring that they be kept functional well past their normal working lives. {ANTIQUE}

Fair to Good. Bore dark and crusty with weak rifling. Metal moderately oxidized with traces of finish mixed with a brown and plum brown patina. Some scattered surface roughness and pitting is present on the barrel. Ill fitting lock needs mechanical attention to function. Nipple missing from drum bolster. Triggerguard with broken tangs and secured with nails. Wood with loss around the bolster and gapping at the lock mortise. A near full length crack is present in the belly of the stock, running from the forend tip back towards the triggerguard. Wood with numerous scattered bumps, dings, marks and mars.
