.38 caliber. 48" pinned octagonal barrel. NSN. Browned finish, iron furniture, smooth full length hardwood stock with raised cheek rest and crescent iron buttplate. Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle with adjustable double set triggers, dovetailed notch rear sight, dovetailed blade front sight and more recent broken wood ramrod. Unmarked commercial percussion lock is secured with a single screw. Barrel marked "W.P. GA R. RETT 1888". Left angled breech indicates the barrel was made by "BOWN" in Pittsburgh, PA. No records for a gun maker named "R RETT" could be found. A neat example of a late 19th century southern "Po Boy" type rifle. {ANTIQUE}

Fair to Good. Bore dark and crusty with weak rifling. Metal moderately oxidized with a medium plum and brown patina with a somewhat splotchy appearance. Lock needs mechanical attention to function correctly. Wood with moderate wear and some damage. A piece is missing under the lock mortise and about 2" of the forend tip is missing. Otherwise wood with numerous bumps, dings and mars.
