Quarter plate outdoor daguerreotype. N.p., ca. 1850s. Separated full leatherette case.

This outdoor view looks down a gentle rural lane cutting across an open field toward a substantial country estate. Visible in the background is a two-story homestead with a colonnaded porch, flanked by outbuildings, fencing, and trees, all set against the dramatic backdrop of a heavily forested hillside.

Outdoor landscape and architectural views are notoriously scarce compared to studio portraiture, requiring exceptional technical mastery of exposure, outdoor lighting, and chemistry in the field. This is a compelling example.

Very good condition. The plate exhibits only scattered pinpoint dust and minor periphery tarnish under the mat. The leather case remains complete with functional hinge and clasp.
