.69 caliber. 42" barrel secured by three flat, spring retained bands. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot percussion altered smoothbore flintlock musket with no rear sight, brass blade front sight, slightly swivels and a full-length trumpet head ramrod. Lock with weak {Spread Winged Eagle} over "L. POMEROY" markings below the pan and marked in two vertical lines at the tail "1840/US." Breechplug tang dated "1840" as well with "US/JH/P" inspection marks at the breech. A soft script "JH" (Joseph Hannis) cartouche is present on the counterpane with a legible scrip "MPL" (Mann Page Lomax) final acceptance cartouche on the stock comb, in front of the buttplate tang. Comb with the alphanumeric mating mark "I 18" indicating that alteration to percussion was performed at the Watervliet Arsenal circa 1849-1851. Very Good. Bore very good, dirty and moderately oxidized. Metal with moderate oxidation, scattered freckled light surface rust that should clean to some degree and some scattered pitting, most notably on the lock and in the breech area. Markings light on lock, clearer everywhere else. Mechanically functional lock. Wood with some wear, two legible cartouches, and showing scattered bumps, dings and mars from handling and use. Socket bayonet lug under barrel is sheared off and missing.
