Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle with fixed notch rear sight, brass blade front sight, sling swivels and a full-length brass tipped trumpet head ramrod. Lock with standard Tryon markings and dated "1847" at the tail. Breech plug tang with weak "1847" date. Breech with correct inspection marks for a Tryon barrel, marked with "US / JH" and weak raised "P" in a sunken circle. Buttplate with correct small "US", correctly oriented for a Tryon contract rifle. Counterpane with traces of the script "WAT" final inspection cartouche and the weak outline of the sub-inspection cartouche. Includes a good quality, reproduction leather sling. {ANTIQUE}

Good. Bore party bright with moderate oxidation and some pitting and decent original 7-groove rifling. Metal with no remaining finish and cleaned to bright with scattered light surface oxidation and age discoloration. Markings mostly clear in metal, much weaker in wood. Mechanically functional lock. Wood sanded with scattered bumps, dings and mars and a small chip out behind the tang.
