.58 caliber. 39" barrel secured by three rounded Palmer patent clamping bans. NSN. Blued finish, color casehardened lock and hammer, brass furniture, walnut stock. Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle musket, with correct 900 yard ladder rear sight, Barleycorn combination front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling swivels and a correct full-length jag head ramrod. Lock marked "1862/TOWER" forward of the hammer and with a "Crown" without a "VR" underneath at the tail. Breech with Birmingham commercial proof, view and gauge marks. Maker marked "WHITEHOUSE" in the toe line of the stock with a superposed "TW" maker's logo behind the triggerguard. Thomas Whitehouse was a Birmingham based gunmaker working circa 1862-1864. Includes a rough condition original Confederate linen sling with the leather loop at the lower end broken. {ANTIQUE}

Very Good attic condition. Bore dark and oxidized with weak but visible rifling. Metal with weak faded traces of blue and a thick, untouched brown patina with scattered surface roughness and some scattered light pitting. Markings remain mostly clear and legible. Mechanically functional lock. Wood with some wear, a chip missing on the off side of the tang and showing scattered bumps, dings and mars. Sling in about poor to fair condition and starting to disintegrate.
