Jefferson Davis (1808-1889). Partly printed document signed by Jefferson Davis ("Jefferson Davis"), as President of the Confederate States of America, and Judah P. Benjamin ("J.P. Benjamin"), as Confederate Secretary of State. Richmond, Virginia, 8 January 1864. 1 page, 16 1/2 x 12 3/4 in. With green wafer seal.
A Confederate naval commission signed by Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Secretary of State Judah P. Benjamin (1811-1884). The document, however, has not been completed for any captain or vessel, and it seems evident that the Confederate leadership prepared the document in advance.

Loss at center, neat repairs to verso along old folds.
