Jefferson Davis (1808-1889). Partly printed document signed by Jefferson Davis("Jefferson Davis"), as President of the Confederate States of America, and Judah P. Benjamin ("J.P. Benjamin"), as Confederate Secretary of State. Richmond, Virginia, 8 January 1864. 1 page, 16 1/2 x 12 3/4 in. With green wafer seal.

A Confederate naval commission signed by Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Secretary of State Judah P. Benjamin (1811-1884). The document, however, has not been completed for any captain or vessel, and it seems evident that the Confederate leadership prepared the document in advance.
