M1840 non-commissioned officer's (NCO) sword. Trenton, New Jersey: Emerson & Silver, 1863. Ricasso obverse clearly stamped: "Emerson / & / Silver / Trenton / NJ". Ricasso reverse stamped with the Inspector stamps of Dexter F. Mosman above the leather washer: "US / DFM / 1863". Blade 31 7/8 in. Overall 39 1/4 in.
A fine example of an m1840 NCO sword by the firm Emerson & Silver. This sword would have been worn by line NCOs in the infantry and is distinguishable by its double kidney-shaped counterguard. It is complete with the correct metal scabbard.
