Confederate cavalry saber. N.p., n.d. Unmarked. Blade approx. 35 1/8 in. Overall 43 1/4 in. long.

A fine example of a "Dog River" sword; that is to say, per Albaugh's categorizations, a Confederate sword not identified to a specific maker. The sword bears an unstopped fuller and fifteen wraps of a single wire over a down-turned grip of dyed pig skin. Complete in scabbard with a fascinating battlefield repair; one of the scabbard rings has been replaced with a rear sling swivel, held in place by a deformed nail. The firearm from which the swivel was procured is unknown.

The blade and guard both exhibit dark patina.
