A civil war soldier's pocket edition testament by the American Bible Society in 1852. Some wear is present, "Bible" still very clearly legible on spine and binding in overall good condition. Text pages are all in good condition. 2 7/8 in. x 4 1/2 in. Period red roan binding. 

 

1 page of period ink inscription before the New Testament, "Charles F. Watermans /Book. /Presented to him by his Father /James F. Waterman. Oct. 27th '53. /Read this book. Prayer fully /and Remember The Giver. /Herick, Susquehanna County /Penn." 1 page of period ink inscription on rear endpapers: "Chas. F. Waterman /New London /Waupaca County Wisconsin /Entered the service Nov. 6th 1863 /in the 32nd Reg Wis volts"

 

The 32nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry was organized at Camp Bragg and mustered into service on 25 September 1862, serving in operations connected with William T. Sherman's movement towards Vicksburg. In 1864, it joined Sherman's forces in the Siege of Atlanta and fought at the Battle of Jonesboro before taking part in the March to the Sea and the Carolinas Campaign, as well as the Battle of Bentonville.
