Captain Jordan W. Stewartt, Company "F' in the Twenty-Ninth Regiment of the USCT. Partly printed muster roll completed in manuscript. 10 June 1865. 2 pages.

A 1865 muster roll for the Twenty-Ninth Regiment of the USCT, which was organized in Quincy, Illinois in 1864. The Twenty-Ninth Regiment, which consisted of ten companies, participated in various skirmishes within Virginia, including the Battle of the Crater and the Appomattox Campaign. It was the only African American regiment to be raised in Illinois.

Company “F” in particular fought heavily throughout the Eastern theater of the Civil War, with a notable presence at the Battle of Petersburg, and during the Confederate surrender at Appomattox. Afterwards, the regiment was stationed in Texas until their mustering out in November of 1865.
