Double action solid frame revolver with six-chambered unfluted cylinder, loading gate, pivoting ejector rod stored in cylinder arbor, frame notch rear sight, dovetailed blade front sight and lanyard ring in butt. Frame with Adams' patent and Adams' trademark markings, matching serial numbers on frame and cylinder. Right of frame with small {Broad Arrow} over "W.D." over "III" forward of the cylinder and with an {Opposed Broad Arrows} sold out of service marking and dated "10.74". Lower left of frame stamped with a "C./M.P." in an oval for "Canadian Mounted Police" with the inventory number "319" above it.

The Adams MkIII was the final evolution of Adams M1854 double action percussion revolvers transitioning to self-contained metallic cartridge revolvers. They were also the last of the solid frame cartridge revolvers to see use with the British military, and were replaced by the Webley and Enfield top break, simultaneous ejection revolvers. These Adams revolvers were the primary revolvers of the British Army during the period of the Zulu Wars and when they were sold off as surplus did service around the British Empire in nearly every corner of the globe. This is one of 326 Mark III revolvers obtained for use by the North West Mounted Police that were shipped to them in 1875. A rare Canadian Mounties used and marked Adams MkIII in rather good condition. {ANTIQUE}

Good to Very Good. Bore mostly bright with fine, crisp rifling. Metal with some nice thinning original blue on the barrel and topstrap, with moderate amounts of loss, wear and freckled oxidation. Frame and cylinder with a mostly smooth plum brown patina. Markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional action. Grip with moderate wear and smoothing to the wood, showing dings, dents and mars.
