An Interior Design Study

Visible 24 3/16 in. x 22 3/16 in., matted and framed to 36 5/16 in. x 34 5/16 in.

A highly detailed interior design study of a drawing room. This room features a plush leather couch with three coordinating leather chairs, two wingback and one barrel. There are also two wicker back chairs next to the central table that features a gold banker's lamp. Behind it is a window with intricate curtains made of a blue fabric with gold details to pair nicely with the golden chandeliers. The artist clearly scrutinized small details because on the moulded walls are three framed pieces of art.

The consignor relates that this was discovered in a secret room in the North Carolina residence of Athelia (alt. Athalia) “Thalia” Falk (1911-2009). Born in Chicago in 1911, Falk would leave the home of her widowed mother, Emilia, c. 1936-1937. She would settle in Manhattan, New York, between 1940 and 1943, working independently in the fashion district; this is presumed to be where she acquired her artwork.
