A collection of (14) jugs, jars, flasks and vials. A combination of glass, earthenware and metal. Sizes range from the largest at approx. 3 1/2 (diam.) x 12 in. and the smallest at approx. 1 1/4 x 2 in.
A handsome collection of historic jugs, jars, flasks and vials. While most of them are unmarked, a few indicate their purposes or who made them.
The smallest brown jar is labeled "Poison," and another glass jar boasts it held "Gun Oil." The cobalt glass vial used to hold Acker's English Remedy, distributed by W.H. Hooker & Co. in the late 19th century, which would help cure throat and lung diseases. One of the jugs has the name near the top C.L. Kornahrens, a soda producer and bottler from late-19th century Charleston, South Carolina. Another jug is stamped with the seal of Georg Kreuzberg, who bottled mineral water from the modern-day Bad Neuenahr spring in 1852 in Germany. Lastly, the top of one of the flasks is stamped with a guarantee of no leaks from New York-based W.T. Fry, a flask producer from as early as the Civil War era.
