.48 caliber. 26.5" pinned octagonal barrel. NSN. Oxidized metal, brass furniture, walnut half stock with raised cheek rest. Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle with double set triggers, replaced semi-buckhorn rear sight, dovetailed Rocky Mountain blade front sight and a more recent brass tipped wood ramrod. Percussion lock with broken tumbler, loose hammer is included. Barrel marked in two lines with a very weak gang stamp "CHILD, PRATT & CO" over "ST. LOUIS." The barrel is additionally marked "ENTERPRISE GUNWORKS" with the mark weak and partly obliterated by the added dovetail for the rear sight. Stock appears to have been cut back at some point in time and an iron ramrod thimble was added under the barrel. A small copper rectangle is set into the wrist like an escutcheon plate.

Child, Pratt & Co. were hardware dealers and retailers in St. Louis who sold guns with their marks, often made by the Pittsburgh makers Bown & Tetley who worked for some time under the name of Enterprise Gunworks. {ANTIQUE}

Fair to Good. Bore fair, dark with some pitting and visible rifling. Metal heavily oxidized with scattered surface roughness, pitting and discoloration. Markings weak. Lock not functional, tumbler broken but the hammer is present for a repair. Nipple replaced. Wood with moderate wear, chipped loss on the obverse toe, a repaired diagonal crack running from the front of the lock mortise to the the barrel channel, chipped loss behind the lock mortise, foend shortened and with numerous bumps, dings and mars.
