A posed group of African Americans are situated in front of two log homes, flanking the group. A steaming pot can be seen boiling in the corner. While they are posed, some carry tools, rakes, and buckets, as if they were asked to pause in the middle of their work day. They are dressed in a variety of white frocks, pants and buttoned shirts, and more industry-related garb such as aprons. Each subject stares intently at the photographer's lens. An excellent view of a townspeople captured in the progression of their day.
