A grouping of two (2) studio portraits featuring African American subjects:
1.) Full-plate framed studio tintype. N.p.N.d. Frame: 14 1/2 x 12 1/2 in. Tintype visible: 7 1/2 x 9 1/3 in.
An intriguing photo of an African American gentleman, supposedly in a post-mortem state. He is dressed in a fine suit with a bowtie at his collar. A neatly trimmed beard lines his face, and his eyes are in a squinting-like state. Perhaps the image of a loved one, taken after his passing.
2.) Full-plate framed studio tintype. N.p.N.d. Frame: 14 1/2 x 12 1/2 in. Tintype visible: 6 x 7 3/4 in.
An elegant studio portrait of an African American couple, posed in their finery. The gentleman is dressed in a stylish suit, with a brimmed hat resting in his lap. His hair is short with a well-groomed mustache upon his face. He stares intently to the side of the photographer’s lens. The woman standing by his shoulder, assumedly his wife, is beautifully dressed in a black frock, with a delicate lace collar lining her neck. Her expression is refined as she looks at the photographer’s lens, the pearl earrings dangling her ears evoking a fine sense of elegance.
