A 1939 Nazi-era poster advertising the 1939 sports competition organized by the Sturmabteilung (SA) and held at the Reichssportfeld in Berlin. A gladius sword is superimposed on a wreath of oak leaves and a Nazi swastika, all rendered in shades of gold against a brilliant vermilion red. 

The SA, commonly known as the "Brownshirts," were the original Nazi paramilitary militia organized by Hitler. Fundamental to his rise to power in the 1920s and early 1930s, they lost much of their influence after the arrest and execution of their leader Ernst Röhm on the Night of Long Knives in 1934. While superseded in many ways by the SS, the SA continued to exist and officially operated as a training school for the armed forces. 

VERY RARE. While medals from the competition regularly show up on the market, we found no other copies of this poster.
