29.75" curved single-edged blade with a 22.25" stopped median fuller. Blade 1.25" wide at ricasso. Overall length 35.5". 5.25" hilt with gilt brass English Pattern of 1803 guard and flaming bomb motif knuckle bow. Grip of carved bone with traditional Eagle Head pommel. Partially blued blade with gilt highlights marked "WARRANTED" on the obverse at the ricasso and decorated with floral and martial themes, panoplies of arms and a wonderful spread-winged Federal Eagle as the central figure in the obverse panel. The saber is accompanied by its gilt brass mounted leather scabbard with suspension rings on the throat and middle mount. A lovely example of a likely English made saber for the American market circa 1805 or so.
Very Good. Metal with some strong traces of thinning blue toning to plum and bluish black in some areas. Some strong areas of thinning gilt remain in the engraving. Hilt with strong traces of thinning gold as well. Blade with moderate oxidation, some minor nicks and marks and with the tip very slightly chipped. Guard somewhat loose on blade, grip with moderate wear, some cracking and chipped loss, mostly on the lower reverse near the pommel. Scabbard with moderate wear, showing significant crazing and some flaked finish loss with moderate stitching loss. Gilt mounts with moderate wear and thinned loss.
