.72 caliber smoothbore. 40" barrel secured by three flat, screw retained bands. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, European hardwood stock. Single shot smoothbore composite flintlock trade musket made from a combination of repurposes and newly made parts for sale to Africa in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Back action flintlock remains in original flint. Made without a rear sight, the front bead or post sight is missing with a small hole in the barrel where it would be mounted. Retains both sling swivels and an iron button head ramrod. The breech is iron and a clear line is visible between the older, repurposed barrel and the breech section. No markings are present except Liege proofs. A classic example of the repurposed and rebuilt guns offered as cheap trade guns by surplus dealers like Bannerman at the turn of the 20th century. {ANTIQUE}

Good. Bore rusty and dark. Metal moderately oxidized with a mottled gray patina with some darker patches of surface oxidation and discoloration. Some surface roughness and pinpricking are present as well. Mechanically functional action. Wood with some wear, showing scattered bumps, dings and mars. Iron breech guns of this type are not considered safe to shoot.
