Nicknamed "Rapid Robert" because of his obliterating fastball and high strike-out totals, Bob Feller (1918-2010) began his career in the major leagues in 1936 at the age of 17. At the prime of his career, Feller enlisted in the U.S Navy after Pearl Harbor, gaining national esteem as he gave up four seasons of baseball to offer support to his country. Returning from the war, Feller picked up right where he left off, stunning audiences with his skill and averaging more than 19 wins a season. Considered one of the best pitchers of his time, Bob Feller maintains the status of being a Hall of Famer longer than any other person, earning the status in 1962.
