Three years later, he was chosen by the Northern Pacific Railroad to produce views for the company's promotional purposes, in which every photo in this lot were created at least in part for. He opened his Fargo, Dakota Territory, studio in 1879, which is where all of the N.P.R.R. photographs have imprints from. Then, during the 1880s, Haynes took photos of Yellowstone, three of which are included in this lot.

In addition to taking photographs of the N.P.R.R. and Yellowstone, he was also contracted to document the Canadian Pacific Railway and traveled through Alaska for the Puget Sound and the Steam Ship Line.
