Partly engraved Naval Officer's commission signed by Theodore Roosevelt, as President of the United States. Washington D.C., 21 March 1902. 1 page, on vellum, with original blue wafer seal. Signed by Secretary of the Navy John Davis Long (1838-1915).

 

A Roosevelt-signed naval appointment for Joseph Fyffe (1874-1942) to Paymaster in the Navy with the rank of Lieutenant. Fyffe was the son of Rear Admiral Joseph P. Fyffe (1832-1896) and would go on to serve as Fleet Paymaster on the staff of the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War I.
