Period reporting confirms that Frazier's patent cartridge boxes were supplied to New York National Guardsmen in the wake of the Railroad Strikes in 1877. The "NG" cipher to the front of this box would later be incorporated into the distinctive insignia of the 107th Infantry Regiment, New York Army National Guard, formed in 1917. These boxes were manufactured for use with the standard-issue Springfield trapdoor rifles of the late 19th century; each hole would be filled with a .50-70 cartridge, the caliber employed by the Springfield m1866.
