Reproduction of a Remington Hepburn No. 3 Target Sharps Rifle. Half stock single-shot falling-block rifle. Stamped "45-70" on barrel believed to be caliber. Patent mark on receiver under side lever. Barrel octagonal and approx. 33 in. long. Overall length approx. 50 in.
The metal components exhibit a dark patina paired nicely with a dark wood. The front sight is accompanied by a modern level underneath the sight and a Vernier sight behind the trigger. The tang features a checkered pattern, and the buttplate curves inward, covered by a metal plate. The rifle's serial number, 1411, can be found stamped underneath the tang.
This reproduction rifle is based on the one designed by Lewis Hepburn for E. Remington & Sons. Hepburn, the mechanical department superintendent for Remington, patented the design in 1879. The rifle was produced from 1880 to 1907, featuring several variations. It also featured two additional patented designs by Hepburn: a rebounding hammer system and a side lever to adjust the breech block.
