An excellent grouping of six (6) daguerreotypes of Mexican War-era portraits, including officers in uniform and identified examples. Images include:

 

1. Half-length studio portrait of sailor identified as Harry Kline wearing naval uniform with six-pointed star, belt reading "P.H.K.", and cap with band reading "WASHINGTON." Sixth plate daguerreotype. Half leatherette case. WITH Period manuscript ink note which reads in full: "This is a picture of Harry Kline who was a member of Washington engine No.5 in the year of 1846."

 

Washington Engine No.5 may have been a fire brigade, many of which also doubled as militias. 

 

2. Half-length studio portrait of officer identified as Major T.W. Lendrum wearing dress uniform with epaulettes and braids. His officer's saber rests on his arm. Sixth plate daguerreotype. Full leatherette case. Modern ink identification note enclosed in case. 

 

3. Half-length portrait of a dashing officer in uniform with epaulettes and 1839 pattern shoulder plate, captured against a painted backdrop. Quarter plate hand-gilt daguerreotype. Full leatherette case. 

 

4. Seated three-quarter length portrait of an unidentified infantryman in uniform with white bib and plumed shoulders. A hat with infantry insignia and pompom sits on the table. Quarter plate daguerreotype. Half leatherette case. 

 

5. Full-length studio portrait of an adolescent boy in military uniform with epaulettes and a plumed tricorn resting on the table. Sixth plate daguerreotype. Full leatherette case. 

 

6. Half-length portrait of an unidentified officer in uniform with shoulder straps, shoulder belt with plate, and an officer's sword cradled in his arm. Sixth plate hand-gilt daguerreotype. Half leatherette case.
