A grouping of two (2) CDVs of the Lincolns. Views include: 

1. Half-length albumen CDV studio portrait of President Abraham Lincoln.  [Washington, D.C.]:[1861]. Modern pencil inscription to verso: "A. Lincoln / 31 [inverted]". Ostendorf 88.

An imposing CDV portrait of President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865). This mystery portrait has, throughout time, been ascribed to many different photographers, including Mathew Brady. The original photograph bears a lengthy inscription by Lincoln, which was uncommon for any photographs presented by the president. The earliest known circulations of the image date to an Independence Day celebration souvenir ticket, so the portrait was likely taken sometime between a sitting with Mathew Brady in February 1861 (where he is shown with abnormally long hair) and July 1861. Additional copies of the sitting have been found with imprints attributed to C.D. Fredricks & Co, and W.L. Germon, placing them both as candidates as photographers. While there has yet to be a clear determination, it is more than likely one of the two previously mentioned photographers, rather than Mathew Brady.

After becoming first lady, Mary Todd Lincoln (1818-1882) posed for a variety of CDVs. This view shows the first lady in a stunning white gown, with flowers adorning her hair and in her arms. Mrs. Lincoln was known to have loved flowers and often posed with them in her hair or hands. 

This collection features two impressive CDVs of the Lincolns.
