Abraham Lincoln campaign ferrotype star-shaped badge. N.p., 1864. Diam. 15 mm. Ferrotype captioned in negative “Lincoln 1864”. Mounted in approx. 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 in. brass star with brad-style fixture to reverse.   

 

During the 1864 election, the Republican Party renamed itself the National Union Party as a way to attract Democrats and strengthen its campaign to preserve the Union from the rebellion in the South. The Republican Party would regain its name in 1867. Abraham Lincoln would only serve 42 days in his second term.
