A mixed medium piece, likely using pen and ink line work with shading. Titled "Rock Garden," this piece from artist John W. Haynes is an abstract representation of rocks and natural features. Blending open space elements with detailed shading and line work, this piece beautifully captures the intricacies of rock formations.
John W. Haynes was born in Utah in 1904. Pursuing a career of freelance commercial art, Hayes eventually became the head of the art department and local newspaper in Glendale, California. While record of his life is largely lost upon the onset of WWII, his work continued to show up in exhibitions around California, including the aforementioned piece which was displayed at the San Francisco Museum of Art's "Holiday Festival" in 1969.
