William L. Thornton (1844-1915) was a prominent New York Republican politician. After establishing a law practice in Monticello, he rose to public office as the Judge of Sullivan County in 1878, notably elected on the Greenback ticket during aperiod of political realignment. He then later served as a member of the New York State Senate from 1899 to 1902, sitting in the 122nd through 125th Legislatures at the turn of the 20th century. His combined judicial and legislative service made him one of Sullivan County's leading public figures of his time.
New York at Gettysburg is a detailed three-volume historical work compiled and edited by William F. Fox. These volumes serve as part of The Final Report on the Battlefield of Gettysburg, produced for the New York Monuments Commission, documenting the role of New York State's volunteer regiments in the pivotal 1863 battle of the Civil War. The volumes combine narrative history, regimental accounts, and descriptions of the New York troops' actions on July 1-3, 1863, along with information about the monuments erected on the Gettysburg battlefield in their honor.
