Paramount Pictures, 1934. Belgian first-release "Little Miss Marker" featuring Shirley Temple as Marthy "Marky" Jane. Printed by Les Ateliers Maurice Panneels, Brussels, Belgium, with imprint to the lower right margin. Approx. 24 1/4 x 30 in., framed to 26 7/8 x 32 5/8 in.
A rare pre-code Shirley Temple film, the plot thrusts her "Marky" into sometimes harrowing interactions with bookies, gangsters, and a nightclub singer. It was made between the arrival of sound in film in 1927 and the mandatory enforcement of the Motion Picture Production Code in July 1934. Also known as the Hays Code, this strict set of morale guidelines dictated American filmmaking between 1934 and 1968, when Temple was most active as an actress.
