WITH Albumen CDV of Lula Lake. N.p., n.d. [circa 1863]., X x X inches. Penciled inscription to mount verso reading,  "Lula Lake / Lookout Mountain Ga."

The natural beauty and refreshing waters of Lula Lake and Falls offered both Confederate and Union soldiers respite from combat during the Civil War. During the siege of Chattanooga, General Braxton Bragg  garrisoned Lookout Mountain, a strategic high-ground position. However, during the battle of Lookout Mountain in 1863, the site fell to the Union Army and remained under their control until the end of the war. The Army of Cumberland backstamp of the CDV depicting Lula Falls suggests that it was taken after the site was squarely in Federal hands.
