Full-length albumen CDV studio portrait. Allentown, Pennsylvania: J. Jeanes, ca 1860s-1870s. Photographer's imprint to mount verso.

A striking full-length studio portrait, capturing a young tradesman posed with the complete apparatus of his craft. Wearing a soft cloth cap, striped trousers, and an open work jacket with a cigar perched casually in his mouth, he slips one forearm inside a tall leather riding boot while resting his other hand on a tiered bootblack stand. Mounted atop the stand is a display tray holding various specialized polishing and buffing brushes, positioned directly above a wooden footrest block securing a second polished boot.

Authentic, studio-posed 19th-century occupational cartes de visite showcasing working-class tradesmen with their complete kits and professional equipment remain among the most desirable genres of American paper photography.

Very good condition. The albumen print displays warm, even tones, excellent clarity across the subject's face, clothing texture, and the leatherwork of the boots, with light, gentle age toning and minor handling to the mount edges. Collector inventory numbers in pencil on verso.
