H. H. Brodeck for the Northwest Trading Company. Circa 1881.
Stereoview of a Chilkat weaver seated with her back to the camera, working at a blanket suspended from a horizontal wooden support. Loose bundles of yarn hang beneath the partially completed textile. A painted design board stands behind the work, with a finished, deeply fringed blanket displayed above it. The arrangement places the weaver, the pattern, and the completed textile within a single interior view.
The mount is captioned "No. 98.—Chilcat girl weaving dancing blanket at upper Chilcat Village." The side imprints read "Scenes in Alaska" and "Photographed for the Northwest Trading Co. By H. H. Brodeck." The view belongs to Brodeck’s series of Alaskan photographs made for the company in 1881.
