Full-length seated view of George Armstrong Custer in uniform as Bvt. Major General. Washington, D.C.: Mathew Brady, [23 May 1865]. Albumen CDV. Brady imprint to recto and verso. Period ink inscription to verso identifies Custer with rank. Katz (K-78, p. 62). 

 

Seated in full uniform, Custer has embellished his look with a scarf, a wide collar, gauntlets, and a signature wide-brimmed hat with his general's insignia of two stars.
