An interesting painting of a man on a raft. On first glance, this raft appears rather normal; however, upon further inspection, it seems the man is balancing on a large aluminum beverage can. The can is tied to two large rubber tires, with the one on the right holding a bunch of bananas and a plastic jug. The man is looking up to the sky, where a ray of sunlight is breaking through the clouds.
Joherms Quiala Brooks was born in 1970 in Guantanamo, Cuba. He is known to be an avid fan of Salvador Dalí's work, no doubt incorporating surrealist techniques and motifs into his work. However, one writer stated that he combines classical and modern elements in one painting — for example, "his women... appear in classical poses but within a weightlessness that does not suggest a location or situation in time" (Estrada Guantanamo 2000).
