A bucolic landscape painting depicting a batey, or a settlement that could be found around sugar mills in countries like Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. One house stands in the forefront, while two others are tucked away behind a horse-drawn cart.
Rodriguez is a mainly self-taught artist, focusing on "rural landscapes revealing the habits and daily life of the Cuban campesinos" (Nuance Galleries). His work is full of environmental themes, complementing his realist approach well.
