Untitled
Oil pastels on paper
Signed to lower left
11 1/2 x 14 3/4 in. framed and matted to 20 x 23 1/2 in.
Sketched in oil pastels, this untitled portrait shows a man, intensely staring off to the side of the viewer with a cigarette dangling from his lips. A mustache crowds his upper lip, and a cowboy hat is sat upon his head. While the subject is only visible from the shoulders up, the intensity of his gaze provides the portrait with distinct personality.
Born in Camaguey, Cuba, Hector Molne began his studies in art at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas. Later, Molne was awarded a scholarship to continue his studies in Paris at the La Grande Chaumiere. With a distinct portrayal of his subjects, Molne’s portraits have been displayed in galleries throughout Cuba, Costa Rica, Los Angeles, and Miami.
