Born in Spain, Morey studied extensively in both Cuba and Europe. Exhibiting widely, he won several prizes, including a National Prize for best landscape (1911) and a Gold Medal in San Francisco (1915). He was appointed the Director of the National Museum of La Habana in 1918.
